Day 01: Cusco | Upis | Arapa Pass | Hatun Pucacocha
We will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco and we will go in our private transport for 3 hours to the starting point of our trek in the small town of Upis. There you will enjoy our first breakfast
Then we will start the walk gradually for 3 hours to the place where we will have lunch. During this part of the tour we will be able to observe the Majestic snowy peak known as Ausangate in the long distance, our team will be waiting for you at our first stop with a delicious lunch. You will have time to enjoy a short break and recharge your batteries.
After lunch, we will start a two-hour uphill hike to the Arapa Pass (4,800m/15,748ft). Then we will descend for three and a half hours to the Hatun Pucacocha lagoon, where our camp is located. On the way, we will also appreciate Lake Yanacocha. Once in the camp, you can help yourself to a hot chocolate or a coffee, and a little later dinner will be ready.
Day 02: Hatún Pucacocha | Puca Pass | Anantapata | Warmisaya Pass | Surinecocha
Today our trek will begin after breakfast with a two-hour climb to the Puca Pass (4,870 m / 15,978 ft). Along the way, you will be able to observe an amazing eroded mountain, beautiful high Andean valleys and you will also witness the beauty of several glacial lagoons, such as Huchuy Pucacocha and Hatun Pucacocha.
A little later, we will descend for an hour and a half to Anantapata, our lunch spot, to enjoy another delicious meal and then ascend for two hours to Warmisaya Pass (4,985m/16,355ft). From here you will be able to appreciate from a new angle the sacred mountain of Ausangate and the Rainbow Mountain, as well as the endless Vilcanota mountain range.
Then we will descend for 1 hour to Surinecocha, where our camp is located. When we arrive, you will be greeted with a hot drink to warm you up. Before a well-deserved night of rest, you will enjoy dinner prepared by our chef and his assistant. You will definitely be amazed at the delicacies they prepare so far up in the mountains!
Day 03: Surinecocha | Rainbow Mountain Llacto | Cusco
Today our trek will start after breakfast with a walk for about 45 minutes until we reach the famous rainbow mountain. You will have time to explore the area and take pictures. We will spend approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour (depends on the speed of your walk and the weather conditions). Our guide will explain why these mountains are so special. Its impressive display of colors is due to the sedimentary layers of minerals that were exposed by erosion. After enjoying the rainbow mountain for about an hour. After spending a lot of time contemplating the landscape, we will walk for an hour to Llacto, where a tasty lunch awaits. After a nutritious lunch we will return to Cusco.

All our travelers need a sleeping bag for camping. Our sleeping bags are effective and durable in protecting from temperatures as low as -18ºC (0ºF). If you don’t have them, don’t worry, you can rent them with us in Cusco.
What is the best time to do the excursion?
Peru is a very large country with many different climates, for that reason it would be very difficult to define a good time to visit different places. However, we consider that the best season is from April to November. For the Salkantay Trek, the hottest season is from December to March, but it is also the rainy season. That is why we think that it is more pleasant to do a sunny but cold excursion than a warm but rainy excursion. For this reason, we recommend doing it preferably between May and December. It should be noted that the Ausangate Trek is open every day of the year except in February, the month of maintenance and heavy rain.
How many days of acclimatization do I need before starting Ausangate and Rainbow Mountain Trek?
If you come from a country that is less than 500 meters above sea level. We recommend that you spend at least 2 days in Cusco to acclimatize to the altitude before starting the Ausangate and Rainbow Mountain Trek.

How old do I have to be to do the Ausangate and Rainbow Mountain Trek? ?
People of all ages (from children, teenagers to retirees) are suitable to complete this trek as age is not a barrier if you have a positive mindset and an active lifestyle.
However, for all people over 60 to 70 years of age, we recommend that you visit your doctor before doing the Inca Trail. You must also bring us the signed authorization from your doctor indicating that you are fit to walk the Ausangate and Rainbow Mountain trek.
Canvas bag or canvas case?
You will receive a duffel bag or duffel bag during your briefing. The porters will carry them along the way and deliver them when you arrive at each camp. They measure 2 ft x 1 ft (64 cm long x 36 cm wide).
