Cusco is par excellence the most important historical destination in Peru and it is the one that attracts the most tourists. However, few know that this city offers many more attractions besides Machu Picchu. One of these is the Waqrapukara fortress. Join us on an epic trek to the majestic pre-Inca construction of Waqrapukara or the two Horns Fortress located in the mighty Apurimac canyon. This beautiful sacred place combines advanced architecture and impressive natural formations in a wonderful landscape.

HIGHLIGHTS:
Your daylong adventure starts bright and early today. We will pass by your accommodation to pick you up at 4:00 a.m. Then we will go on a two-and-a-half-hour drive to the town of Marcaconga. We will continue to the Pitumarca district to enjoy our tasty breakfast.
Once we are stuffed and ready to go, we have a final thirty minutes of driving on a zig-zag unpaved road to reach the starting point of our trek. You will have a little time to gather your things before leaving. The first section lasts two and a half hours, and you will be able to observe magnificent landscapes dotted with small glacial lakes along the way.
When we arrive at the Waqrapukara viewpoint, you can rest a bit and take your first photos of the impressive fortress that sits on the edge of a canyon.
Next, we will descend for about forty minutes down a steep cliff-edge path to the site itself as the Apurimac River flows swiftly below. You will be able to explore the archaeological site for about an hour and a half, climb the remains of the temple and take photos in front of the incredible landscape of the canyon. The incredible scenery will take your breath away.
Finally, when the group is ready, we will begin the ascent back the way we came. We will arrive to private transport after about three hours of walking and we will return to Cusco arriving around 7:00 pm.
