Your exciting experience begins today at 5:00 am. We will pass by your hotel to pick you and we will go in our private transport for 3 hours to the starting point of our trek in the small town of Upis. There you will enjoy our first breakfast.
Then we will start the walk gradually for 3 hours to the place where we will have lunch. During this part of the tour we will be able to observe the majestic Nevado Ausangate in the distance, our team will be waiting for you at our first stop with a delicious lunch. You will have time to enjoy a short break and recharge your batteries.
After lunch, we will start a two-hour uphill hike to the Arapa Pass (4,800m/15,748ft). Then we will descend for three and a half hours to the Hatun Pucacocha lagoon, where our camp is located. On the way, we will also appreciate Lake Yanacocha. Once in the camp, you can help yourself to a hot chocolate or a coffee, and a little later dinner will be ready.
Today our trek will begin after breakfast with a two-hour climb to the Puca Pass (4,870 m / 15,978 ft). Along the way, you will be able to observe an amazing eroded mountain, beautiful high Andean valleys and you will also witness the beauty of several glacial lagoons, such as Huchuy Pucacocha and Hatun Pucacocha.
A little later, we will descend for an hour and a half to Anantapata, our lunch spot, to enjoy another delicious meal and then ascend for two hours to Warmisaya Pass (4,985m/16,355ft). From here you will be able to appreciate from a new angle the sacred mountain of Ausangate and the Rainbow Mountain, as well as the endless Vilcanota mountain range.
Then we will descend for 1 hour to Surinecocha, where our camp is located. When we arrive, you will be welcomed with a hot drink to warm you up. Today our trek will start after breakfast with a walk for about 45 minutes until we reach the famous rainbow mountain. You will have time to explore the area and take pictures. We will spend approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour (depends on the speed of your walk and the weather conditions). Our guide will explain why these mountains are so special. Its impressive display of colors is due to the sedimentary layers of minerals that were exposed by erosion. After enjoying the rainbow mountain for about an hour. After spending a lot of time contemplating the landscape, we will walk for an hour to Llacto, where a tasty lunch awaits us. After a nutritious lunch we will return to your hotel in the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

Soon we will be heading in our transport to Moray. You will surely be amazed by the unique formation of the place that many compare to an amphitheater that was a gigantic Inca agricultural laboratory. After 30 minutes, we will arrive in the Salt flats of Maras. The place has been producing salt since ancient times and there are more than 3,000 salt pools that are filled daily with groundwater. After our lunch in Urubamba, we will take you to the train station located in Ollantaytambo 20 minutes away, we will board the Voyager class Inca Rail train that will take us to Aguas Calientes (town of Machupicchu). This trip will allow you to see beautiful glaciers and snow-capped peaks, as well as fertile green valleys and Inca agricultural terraces on both sides of the valley. At the end of the train journey in Aguas Calientes at the exit door of the train station we will be waiting to take you to your hotel where you will spend the night. After breakfast at your hotel with your guide you will head to Machu Picchu. You will need to get up before sunrise to ensure you beat the crowd and have a wonderful sunrise at Machu Picchu. You will walk a little from your hotel to take a bus that will take you on a 25-minute trip to the very entrance of the Inca citadel. What is the best time to do the excursion?
Peru is a very large country with many different climates, for that reason it would be very difficult to define a good time to visit different places. However, we consider that the best season is from April to November. For the Salkantay Trek, the hottest season is from December to March, but it is also the rainy season. That is why we think that it is more pleasant to do a sunny but cold excursion than a warm but rainy excursion. For this reason, we recommend doing it preferably between May and December. It should be noted that the Ausangate, Rainbow Mountain and Machu Picchu trek is open every day of the year except in February, due to heavy rain.
