Arequipa is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful cities in Peru. Founded in 1540 by Spanish conquistadors, it is now home to just over a million people, making it the second largest city in Peru after Lima. Arequipa has a different look thanks to the white Sillar stone, extracted from nearby volcanoes, used in the construction of many of its buildings. For this reason, Arequipa is known as the White City. The city is full of impressive colonial and republican architecture, both in the city center and in the neighboring districts. And in the distance, you can see the peaks of the surrounding volcanoes, the most famous of which is El Misti, an ever-present reminder of the region’s volcanic activity. During our city tour, you will learn more about this fascinating city, one of the most unique urban centers in Peru.
At the beginning we will visit the “Valle de Chilina” where we will appreciate the terraces of Arequipa and enjoy the view of the Chili River and the Misti volcano. We will continue the tours visiting the traditional town of Paucarpata and then we will continue towards the “Molino de Sabandia”, built in 1785 and where the old traditional architecture of the city of Arequipa is still preserved. After visiting the Mill, the transportation will take us to the most significant residence in our city, the “Founder’s Mansion”, built purely on Sillar (volcanic stone) and located next to a cliff. We will leave the Casa del Fundador and we will go to the “Mirador de Sachaca” to enjoy and take pictures of the city and its three volcanoes. We will conclude the excursion driving through the “Puente de Fierro”. Finish with the drop off at your hotel.
