IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR THE 5-DAY CLASSIC SALKANTAY TREK TO MACHU PICCHU

Please read the following information carefully. It will help you resolve any questions that may arise about our services.

IS FOR ME?

The Classic Salkantay Trail 5 Days to Machu Picchu is an excellent alternative for adventurous tourists who are capable of traveling long distances at altitude. The highest point we will reach is known as Abra Salkantay and is located at 4,638 m.a.s.l. / 15,213 feet. Although it is not too strenuous to go through there, it is important to have physical resistance and to have experienced a previous period of acclimatization in the city of Cusco.

HOW MANY DAYS DO I NEED TO ACCLIMATIZE IN CUSCO BEFORE THE EXCURSION?

It is very important to be well acclimatized to the altitude before starting the trek. We recommend that you arrive in Cusco at least 2 or 3 days before the excursion. This way you will avoid problems related to altitude sickness. Our company also has ideal tours that will help you comply with your acclimatization process:

RAINBOW MOUNTAIN: Full day tour.
SACRED VALLEY OF THE INCAS: Full day tour.
FULL DAY TREK TO HUCHUYQOSQO: Full day tour.

If before arriving in Cuzco you have visited another area of Peru that is at high altitude, we still recommend that you enjoy a full day in the city to rest and recover. This way you will fully enjoy your walk.

WILL I RECEIVE INSTRUCTIONS?

Yes. We will organize a meeting to explain the itinerary in detail and answer any questions you may have. This meeting will take place at 5:00 p.m., one night before your departure, in the lobby of your hotel.

WHAT HAPPENS WITH THE BALANCE OR BALANCE?

We would greatly appreciate it if you make the cash payment of your balance —in dollars or soles— at our main office in the city of Cusco. There are ATMs nearby. HOW SHOULD I USE THE CANVAS BRIEFCASE THAT WILL BE GIVEN TO ME?

The night before starting your trek, we will give you a canvas briefcase so that you can pack the clothes that you will wear during the days of the excursion, as well as your sleeping bag and other items that you see fit. The maximum weight allowed is 7 kg / 15.4 lbs. We will carry your canvas bag, in addition to everything you need for the camps, in our pack animals. It’s important to note that you won’t have access to the items you’re carrying in your duffel bag until the end of each day. This is because our pack animals will always move ahead of the group. To carry other belongings such as waterproof jackets, a camera, sunscreen, medication, etc., you can use a comfortable backpack with a capacity of between 30 and 50 litres.
